Captain's Log

With two small kids my time for outdoor adventure has diminished. However I'm now trying to find activities that will suit my new lifestyle. This blog will follow my outdoor pursuits in general and this year will focus a lot on my experimentation with sailing.

So I got the news today that Anke and I have been accepted on a Hunter 36 with Sailtime in Port Credit.

While we would have certainly preferred to be at the Outer Harbor since it is closer to our house, it at least ensures that we will be sailing this summer. I can't wait.

Four of my best buddies and I will be taking a four day guys sailing trip on the boat in late July or early August. This will be a great opportunity to see how sailing adventure trips fit into our vision for what an adventure excursion should look like. In the past they have been climbing trips or heli-skiing. Will sailing be enough of an adventure? It will be interesting to see.

We are debating where to sail during the four days. It will be our first real trip so we don't want to bite off more then we can chew. There are two schools of thought: 1. head down to the Port Dalhousie / Niagara-on-the-lake area and do some day trips from there, or 2. take on a bit more and head towards the Bay of Quinte.

I will let you know what we decide.
