Captain's Log

With two small kids my time for outdoor adventure has diminished. However I'm now trying to find activities that will suit my new lifestyle. This blog will follow my outdoor pursuits in general and this year will focus a lot on my experimentation with sailing.

Boys long weekend sailing Lake Ontario

On June 14th Rich, Glen, Ben, Kevin and I loaded up on Oasis our 36 foot Hunter sailboat for our first boys sailing trip. This was the culmination of months of planning as we moved from climbing mountains over to learning how to sail.

We had superb weather throughout our trip. Bright sun and warm days, a good amount of wind at various times and even some of the biggest waves we've sailed on Thursday night.

Our route took us from leaving Port Credit on Thursday evening to Toronto Island and across the Lake to Port Dalhousie.

We learned some valuable lessons on the boat about how to properly use the GPS system, how to trim the sails in light and heavy winds, and even how to fix a broken furling device on the genoa.

A good time was had by all.
