Captain's Log

With two small kids my time for outdoor adventure has diminished. However I'm now trying to find activities that will suit my new lifestyle. This blog will follow my outdoor pursuits in general and this year will focus a lot on my experimentation with sailing.

Our four day boys sailing trip

In 10 days our second annual boys sailing trip happens. This year's crew includes Ben, Rich, Glen, James and I. We've all looked forward to it for months.

Last year we were new to sailing and to the sailtime program so we kept our sailing schedule pretty loose and didn't want to take on more then we could handle. So the itinerary was Port Credit to Toronto for a night on the island then off across the lake to Port Dalhousie. We had a great time but we didn't learn much about expedition sailing.

This year we want to do more. We're now based out of the Outer Harbour in Toronto so we're closer to eastern destinations like Cobourg, Sandbanks, Bay of Quinte etc...

The proposed itinerary includes sailing to Cobourg the first day (likely a 12 hour sail) then to the Bay of Quinte day 2 (likely 12 hours as well). From there we'd look around before starting the journey back.

We're planning meals etc...now. The planning and anticipation are always a fun part of the process!
