Fourth of July

Went sailing up in Toronto. Caught the fireworks at Ontario Place

Ooh, Ahh

The fireworks were pretty great. After having cleared up almost entirely at around 8:30, by 10 it was really foggy again. By 10:30 we couldn't see the shore or any other boats, except the odd lights when a boat got within 150 feet.

I was expecting more red-white-and-blue fireworks, but the colors were about the same as I saw on Canada Day.

One interesting political thing: The fireworks are set to music, and though it was the U.S. fireworks team, and it was the 4th of July (or maybe because of those things and not in spite of them), one of the songs that they set the show to was Dixie Chicks, "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice." And then, having placed the American political and military situation in my mind, they followed up with R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World..." Very curious music choices.

There's more pictures of the evening, if you want to see them...
