My Outdoor Life, consolidated

I have too many fragmented blogs, with too few posts. So here's one catch-all blog until something else really picks up steam.

MEC

Mountain Equipment Co-Op, Toronto (stolen from the MEC website: www.mec.ca)

Went to MEC today, and I want everything. Funny how a place that's so business-with-a-conscience can inspire the worst of consumerist desires in me.

I start the new job tomorrow, and really want to make an effort to ride in to work every day. (Following Teri's inspiration.) So I went to MEC to get a decent windproof cycling jacket, and a headlight, and some other schtuff like reflective tape. And as I wandered around, I passed all the camping gear and started pining for some time in the woods. Then I passed the paddling stuff and started pining for time on the water.

(Unrelated question: if a forest ranger in the deep woods has a hankering for the big city, do you still call it "pining"?)

And there's all the clothing with the wicked technical fabrics, and all the just-right-for-the-cool-outdoor-task tools. I want it all!

In the good news/bad news category, the new office is around the corner from MEC. I can see a lot of lunch hours spent wandering the aisles, checking out toys, and spending too much money.
