Ice and snow crampons
Crampons are spiked tools that are strapped to the bottom of your boots in order to assist in efficient and safer travel over ice and hard packed vertical snow.
They generally come in two designs. First is the hinged or flexible crampon. These crampons are ideal for mountaineering and flat-footed movement on lower angle ice. They are good for front pointing on vertical ice but must be worn with hard-boots.
The second type is the rigid crampon. Ideal for climbing steep ice. These are solid with no hinge and generally provide more dexterity while climbing and finer, more solid placements. They are awkward to walk in and climbers must be careful not to allow excessive build up of snow and ice under the boot.
