Mountain Equipment Co-op is holding a video contest. Contestants upload videos to YouTube, register them with MEC, and then people can vote on their favourites.

The contest runs from April 3 to September 9, 2008. Finalists will be announced October 9, with the winners announced on November 6, 2008. Presumably, the sooner you get your video up, the more votes it might get.

Other salient details:

• There are 5 categories: Cycling, Climbing, Snowsports, Hiking/Camping or Watersports
• people vote on the uploaded videos
• Five top-voted videos from in each of the five categories become finalists
• MEC judges will choose 3 winners from the group of 25 user-voted finalists.

Prize Details:

Winning videos will be displayed online and in some MEC stores.

• Grand prize: $2000 MEC Gift Card
• Runner-up: $1000 MEC Gift Card
• Third place: $500 MEC Gift Card

Submission Guidelines for videos:

• Contains nothing illegal, lewd, or loathsome
• Has a self-propelled focus
• Features one of these activity categories: Cycling, Climbing, Snowsports, Hiking/Camping or Watersports
