Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset Run
Billing itself as World’s Most Beautiful Run, the Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset is marathon and ultramarathon race in Mongolia.
The 10th anniversary race will be held the week of July 5 ~ 12, 2008. There is a marathon option (42 km) as well as the 100 km run.
The single-track race course covers some spectacular scenery: lakes, woods, mountains and river valleys. Much of the race is within through Lake Hovsgol National Park; the staging area is Camp Toilogt.
The high and low elevation points are separated by more than 1,600 meters, with a cumulative gain/loss of 2,255 meters (7,400 ft) for the marathon, and 3,365 meters (11,040 ft) for the ultramarathon. The highest single climb is 700 meters (2,400 feet).
Ultramarathon race fee us US$500 (less if booked in advance).
Getting There
Fly into Ulan Bator. From there, runners are flown to Camp Toilogt, 700 km northwest of Ulan Bator.
