A quick tour of Outdoorsica...

How Outdoorsica works, section by section:

Guidebook

Using wiki technology and a planet full of outdoor activity enthusiasts, we're building a user-generated encyclopedia of outdoor activity information. Each entry pulls together different kinds of info to give you a complete picture of the subject: facts, maps, photos, videos, condition reports and links to other relevant sites, all in one space. Anyone can search for the info they need: details on destinations, directions, techniques, organizations, clubs and more. Anyone can edit information if they have more to add on a topic. And best of all, anyone can add new entries in the Guidebook, sharing outdoor knowledge with other Outdoor People. (Editing and adding requires registration, which is free, fast and secure.)

Outdoor Blogs

Do all the things that blogs allow you to do: share adventure stories, post pictures and videos, tell people what's going on. And do it in a place where the readers and the surrounding info are all on your wavelength. Tap into other people's Outdoor Blogs to learn their behind-the-scenes opinions on things that matter to you. See who's been where and done what, and get more data that can help you in your activities. The beauty of blogging at Outdoorsica is the way the Outdoor Blog connects with other outdoor information. When you rave about the best ski slope in Aspen, it becomes part of the searchable Outdoorsica body of knowledge. Same thing when you rant about an outfitter in the Everglades.

Outdoor People

Sure, you can use Outdoorsica as a social networking tool. But we're really excited about the way Outdoorsica lets you dial in Outdoor People whose contributions you like. Each Guidebook entry is labeled with the last person who contributed to it. If you like what they say, click the name to see what else they've posted, or check the person's Outdoor Blog to learn what kinds of adventures they've had lately. You can comment on their Outdoor Blog, send them a message, or even invite them into your circle of friends.

Search

There's no limit to what you'll find when you search Outdoorsica, and that's totally on purpose. Every time you search, we scour the fact-based Guidebook, the first-person Outdoor Blog postings, great photos, fun videos and public profiles of Outdoor People, so that you can get a full perspective on the subject that interests you. With all these resources at your disposal, you’ve got a choice of ways to discover the information you need, or the people who can answer your questions.

Tagging

All the content on Outdoorsica gets tagged with descriptive words, which makes the rich content here very interconnected. Tagging content puts it in context for you and other users. Clicking on tags is like following an unknown trail -- you never know what cool stuff you'll see along the way.
